The right pillow for every sleeping position
1. Pillow for side sleepers
When you sleep on your side, you create the maximum distance between your mattress and the neck, neck and head areas. Therefore, it is essential for side sleepers to compensate for this distance with a suitable pillow so that the spine maintains its natural alignment and avoids back pain the next morning. For this sleeping position, we recommend a voluminous pillow that doesn't give too much. The ideal solution is a latex pillow , which is valued for its dimensional stability. Alternatively, you can also use a plump feather pillow.
2. Pillow for back sleepers
Sleeping on your back is usually the most comfortable and natural sleeping position. This sleeping position has the advantage that you have more freedom when choosing your pillow. However, it is also important for back sleepers to find the right pillow in order to fully exploit the relaxing effect of this sleeping position.
A pillow that is too firm or too soft is not ideal for back sleepers. A hotel pillow that is too firm could put the neck in an unnatural position, while a pillow that is too soft would not provide enough support. The optimal pillow for back sleepers is a rather flat model that precisely fills the space between the head and the mattress. This distance is usually not as large as for a side sleeper. The 3-chamber pillows are particularly recommended for this. The material and hardness of the pillow is a question of your taste.
3. Pillow for stomach sleepers
If your preferred sleeping position is lying on your stomach and you tend to place an arm under the pillow or even hug the pillow, a less firm and bulky hotel pillow is recommended. The reason for this is that your arm already has a certain support function and therefore the pillow should not be too plump. A down pillow with a down content of at least 70% up to 100% is an excellent choice in this case. Down pillows are particularly soft and adaptable, which is particularly beneficial when lying on your stomach.
The size and shape of the pillow should also be considered. Elongated pillows are ideal for stomach sleepers, for example those measuring 40x80 cm or 40x60 cm. This pillow shape offers enough space to comfortably place an arm under it without squeezing the pillow too much.
4. Pillow for alternating sleepers
Most people change their sleeping positions about 85 times per night. These people, known as alternating sleepers, usually vary between lying on their back and on their side. A pillow that adapts to these different sleeping positions is particularly beneficial for this type of sleeper. A narrow pillow measuring 40 x 80 cm is an excellent choice as it adapts well to the needs of both back and side sleeping. This pillow shape offers optimal support and flexibility, which benefits transitional sleepers.
Alternatively, alternate sleepers can also consider a neck pillow. Neck pillows provide excellent support for the neck area and can be used flexibly for different sleeping positions.
